LDV, the van maker based in Birmingham has sent employees home and paid them until the end of the week as it applied to go into administration.

LDV employs 800 manufacturing staff in Birmingham and approx 1200 people in distribution. Most have been on reduced ours during the past few months.

Administration will begin on May 6th unless the company can find additional funding.

The global recession is blamed for the companies plight.
