staff are today being briefed about another massive round of job cuts.

It is feared that the number could reach 1200 and more will be revealed during the course of today (Wednesday). Sources say that 400 jobs will be made redundant in call centres and other back room positions.

HSBC is currently the largest bank in Europe and has not asked for financial assistance from the Government.

It is not yet clear how such a large cull in staff will affect customers.
