A slump in advertising is being blamed for the latest massive job cuts announcement. The Daily Mail and General Trust is to make 1000 positions redundant in it's Northcliffe Media arm - the part of the company that produces regional newspapers.
Some jobs have already gone and many more are still in consultation. The company has experienced a tough 1st quater and profits are expected to be well down for the first 6 months of 2009.
The company publishes newspapers across the Midlands and the South.
