

Co-Op's £1.5 billion takeover of Somerfield will make Co-Op the fifth largest food retailer in the UK. The new group will have over 3,000 outlets and a improved cost benefits to consumers but will also result in a limited number of job losses.
150 of Somerfields 880 outlets could be sold with both companies trading under one brand by 2010. Uncertainty lies in Somerfields head office in Bristol which currently employs 800.
