On 3rd June 2008, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council announced it was reducing its staff in order to cut costs and prioritise key projects. Nine of MLA's agencies are to be replaced by a single regional and national team by April 2009. MLA's relocation to Birmingham has left a small team in London with 30 redundancies - 12 compulsory and 18 voluntary.
