Shop Direct (previously Littlewoods home shopping) is to close it's Crosby call centre with the loss of 1000 jobs. 150 jobs will also be lost elsewhere. The company says it's to cut costs by concentrating more on it's online sales efforts rather than telephone sales.

Some staff will be offered relocation. Redundancy packages have not yet been decided and the union has entered consultation with the company.
