Network rail has just announce a huge cost cutting exercise that will see 1800 jobs cut by April 2011.

Network rail is to have it's budget cut by £4 billion spread over the next 5 years.

This is despite the governments big push, trying to get people out of their cars and onto more environmentally friendly modes of transport such as the rail system.

The company is working with the unions to minimise compulsory redundancies.
