I'm coming to the end of a four week trial (I was made redundant and offered a different role - not a suitable alternative so I would be entitled to redundancy) and have asked for a few days to think about whether to continue or not as it is a very different job and I've taken a 20% pay drop. My employer has refused me any more time (deadline is Friday and I asked to have until next Weds when my husband gets home and I would have a chance to talk things through with him). Is there anything I can do or will I definitely lose my redundancy money if I don't let them know by Friday?
Any help or advice hugely appreciated.

Four week notice period - extension

Hi
The statutory trial period can be extended with the agreement of your employer beyond the four weeks if you need more time to assess the suitability of the new job or require further training.
Unfortunately without the agreement of your employer you are at risk of losing this payment. If you work over the statutory 4 week period, you would be deemed to have accepted the alternative employment and redundancy pay would be forfeited.
If you decide the new job isn't suitable, you can give notice anytime during the trial period without affecting any right you might have to redundancy pay.
I would quickly put a request in writing for the trial period to be extended and hope that your employer grants this or if the request is refused, try and make a decision with your husband asap.Clara Buckingham
