A large client at my company went into administration and the comany sought voluntary redundancies as a means of reducing the impact of compulsory redundancies. A colleague of mine who was directly affected by the change (her role was dedicated to the client who went into administration) applied for voluntary redundancy, but her application was declined.

On Thursday (09.04.09) my colleague (referred to above) and I were advised that our roles are at risk of redundancy and that we would be consulted over the coming weeks (a surprise to me as my role and my team are not directly affected aqs we support other clients, but rationale was justified as restructuring). One suitable alternative role exists (a newly created position which combines our old roles) for which we will be considered (selection criteria), but it seems odd that her VR app was declined - surely if they had accepted her app, the new job would have been mine?
