Hi,
on the first day of my holiday last week I got a phone call informing me that my company was making redundancies and my section would be effected. This was an informal phone call from my Manager, giving me notice of a 30 day consultation and that I should expect a call from a senior member of staff from the parent company and an HR advisor.

I was informed again of the notice period etc and that certain sections will only be effected, mine being one of them. I have been told that between 12 or 20 people may be effected but this as yet I am unsure of.

At this early stage, without any staff representatives being appointed or a collective decision on the selection criteria, I have been told that selection will be made using newly written skills Matrix, written by line managers. This is I feel premature.

Also, I am unsure how any selection will effect the hierachy of workers and supervisors - will it be just shop floor staff. In addition, is it right that certain sections should be effected where others are not touched? These are questions and concerns that only my Management could answer I guess when I return to work.

One major concern is that my company are actively recruiting for staff for overseas positions, does having a section abroad effect the redundancy selection?

I am really quite cross that the announcement came on easter week, and have also been told that instrumental Managers and HR personel were on holiday, due to go on holiday not to return until late next week. I feel cheated on any 30 day consultation when no organisation or group discussions can effectively take place.
