My son-in-law has been told that he is being made redundant by his (large) employer. The firm also has 2 self-employed workers on contract at the same level in the same office, but it seems the firm will not be cancelling their contracts. Can the firm legitimately make an employee redundant when there are non-employees who could be relinquished instead? I understood that an employer has to make every effort to find an alternative job within the firm.
Thanks.
George.
