Hi,
I was told that I would loose my job by my manager and that if he was me he would have started to look for a job ASAP. Needless to say I was gutted but at least it explained why I was the only one in the office who had not had a performance review yet, 2 months delayed. Next week after a rather worrying weekend I asked my boss again what is the deal, when will this happen so I at least would know when I would get paid for the last time and the response was that he would let me know when he could.
A week later after more prompting from me, I was told that the consultation period would start in 2 weeks and that he assumed it would be a short one and that he expected me to be leaving work by the 2nd of May.
Isn’t this a bit preconceived when the consultation hasn’t even begun yet?
My role was created less than a year a go and the need is still there but apparently is being redistributed to some other staff members who had the tasks previously but failed, which makes me wonder why going back to something that didn’t work previously.
Anyways, I have been with the company just short of 1 year and I assume that they can do pretty much anything they want but out of curiosity are they wrong in telling me I will loose my job and mentioning when they reckon I will be terminated even before the consultation has commenced?
Any answers appreciated.
Kind regards
Adrian

Hi Adrian
I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
Your employer should not be pre-empting your dismissal before consultation begins. The consultation period is there to try and avoid making you redundant including looking at alternative employment for you within the business.
As you say, I'm afraid you normally need one years service to bring about a claim for unfair dismissal. Perhaps you may have the qualifying service if you are dismissed depending on your notice period, length of consultation period?Clara Buckingham
