I have recently been notified as being selected for redundancy. A matrix scoring system was used with criteria (decided unilaterally by the company):
Appraisal rating
Key skills
Attendance
Versatility
Aptitude
Potential
Takes responsibility
My score was let down by a low rating for 'potential'.
As an older employee with not too many years to retirement it would not seem possible for me to score highly in this category (which would 'high confidence individual will progress beyond current role').
My questions are:
Could this criterion be considered unfair on age discrimination grounds?
Is this an objective criterion? (There was no indication of how the score was arrived at)
