Default Discrimination

Ford Motor Company sent out notification of VR settlements to staff last week, whether they applied for their 'figures' or not.
However, not everyone got one. Some departments everyone got one, but one section - no-one got one.
Is this discrimination?
Last time there was a VR offer it was open to everyone to apply but from this same section no-one left.
It seems this one department is in isolation, whereas the Transit team have had the opposite treatment and have been encouraged to leave.
Should the VR be open to everyone and people that want to leave can and the ones that want to stay can be redeployed in other areas if needed. Everyone happy.
The change of job and new experience can only enhance the employees knowledge base and improve production - new blood and all that.

Hi Ex-Fordie

The only way this could be considered discrimination is if there was some characteristic about this team that was different to the rest - for instance, if they were predominantly white and other teams were predominantly black or ethnic minority.

If there is some reason for Ford wishing to protect this team - ie if they were a big profit generator - then it would not be hard to see how they could justify it (even if the was the race profile as outlined above). If there is no apparent reason for this different treatment then I suggest you raise it and see what they have to say. I expect you are unionised, so why not get your union reps to take this up?

Regards

pete
