My mum has worked for a clothing retailer for 20 years, on Friday she received a telephone call to inform her that Saturday would be her last day of work as the company had gone into administration and all staff had lost their jobs.
Does anybody know if she is entitled to any form of redundancy package? She has been told that because she is over 64 she is entitled to nothing at all!! Is this correct?
Any information/advice would be appreciated
Many thanks

Redundancy entitlement of a 69 year old

Hi, welcome to the forum. I hope I can be of some help to you as it appears that you have been misinformed.
Until 1st October 2006 the law provided that an employee made redundant after their 65th birthday, or after the normal retiring age (if that was less than 65) did not qualify for statutory redundancy pay. The upper age limit was abolished due to the Age Discrimination Laws.
Your mum is legally entitled to receive statutory redundancy pay providing she meets the criteria e.g is an employee of the company.
If you follow the link below, you will be able to calculate what she should receive.
