Default Notice Period I have to give to employer

    Hi

I was wondering if I could get some advice, my role at work is at risk from redundency and I am currently on a 90 day consultation period.

I have been quite lucky in the sense that I have been offered employment with another company. I am due to start my new job shortly and was wondering whether I still need to give 4 weeks notice to my employer or under circumstances could I just give 1 weeks notice as I have heard that this is the case.

    Many thanks
    Nadine

Hi welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear you have lost your job with your current employer, but congratulations on your new job.

You should speak to your line manager/HR Manager about your leaving date. Normally your normal notice period would apply, however you may find that they are happy to negotiate an earlier leaving date for you.

Have you received notice of redundancy yet? If you have, you may give your employer notice that you wish to leave before the end of the notice period using an RP6 form. Your employer has discretion whether to grant your request or not. Leaving before the notice expires without your employer's agreement might affect your entitlement to redundancy.

    I hope this helps.
