Hi,
I was called by my direct boss yesterday, telling me that my position is 'at risk' What exactly does that mean if they tell you they will let you know next week?
Some background:
I have been working for this company for 3.5 years. I have met and exceeded all my targets in previous years, and grown the business from £3m turnover to over £5m. Last year they employed a younger guy, with no commercial experience and decided that they would split territories. They gave him half of the country and left me with the other half. I used to have the whole of the UK and Ireland to look after, and set up many of the accounts. The new guy was given all my biggest accounts and to date hasn't brought in much new business of his own, but is riding on the income generated from the accounts I set up.
I am not part of the 'boys club'. I dont go drinking with them and don't stay for chats after work as I have a young family and my wife also works.
Anyways, now they have told me that I am at risk and will be told next week what is happening. They have also told the new guy about him being at risk, but I found out yesterday that he will actually be on holiday next week.
I have long told my wife and friends that I am being set up, and it is looking more and more like it. I have kept a sporadic diary over the last few months to this effect.
Further information. I am South African born, although my family is British, but I regularly get banter about being foreign, or sometimes direct insults about being 'foreign'. My colleagues don't know about my British background, and I dont feel the need to discuss it with them. I have not wanted to take this further for two reasons... they HR person is having an affair with my direct boss, which is common knowledge in the office, and I also didn't want to play the 'poor me, I am a foreigner' card. The more I look at it and the more I think back, it certainly looks like they are taking this redundancy route to get me at rather than pressurising me into resigning.
Apologies for the long winded explanation, but I am now in a position that I have to find out what my rights are.
I am hoping you can help.
Thanks
