Hi !
I have worked for current employer for nearly twent years. I took on a new role in 2008. This role has now defunct - I still work within the same team but what I do every day is not what is written on my job descriptor, and is basically a new role. However, I have never been given a new role descriptor for this 'new' role - despite repeated requests. I have even written my role descriptor and asked my line manager to look into changing it over, but nothing has happened.
The company is going through internal restructuring and I would like to be made redundant.
As it appears that my 'job' doesn't exist as it was and there is no new job being defined, I feel like I am in limbo.
If a role no longer exists is there something in law that states this should be made redundant?
My line manager has also stated that if the new role was in place I would be re-graded at a lower level. I don't think this is true but don't know how to dispute it. I have only just been downgraded by one level due to internal restructuring - loss of 5% of bonus but no pay change apart from being closer to mid point so potentially less % pay rise annually.
Am feeling very confused by it all - if my role no longer exists and I don't have a new role profile then how do I stand with redundancy?
Any advice gratefully received - thank you.

Firstly, forget about the lack of a job description. What you are doing is your job description. That is your new job. The employer is not obliged to issue a written job description.
Unless the employer is formally declaring a redundancy situation (and so far they have not) you have no right to be made redundant.
If they try and reduce your pay - for whatever reason - then you can object to that. Whether it is advisable and how you do that would depend on whether there was a redundancy situation in place or not. Suggest you get back to us if and when that happens.
(Any employment law and legal advice I submit to Redundancy Forum is given in good faith without any further liability or obligation).
