Hi
I'm being made Redundant, the company are restructuring and now they do not have a need for my position any longer. I've been at the company for 18 months, I have been told that this is nothing to do with my performance in any way. I am the only person in a company of 70 being made redundant. The other manager who's department is being restructured has not been consulted for redundancy.
I was told the news on Friday at 1pm was advised I was "at risk of redundancy" I was told they'd send me some info on other roles and I'd have these by end of Friday. I didn't receive them so I emailed asking for a copy of the minutes from the meeting as well as any other roles available to me. I was presented with a list of roles on Saturday, one of the roles is 2 levels junior to my current role however I could do the role for sure, I may well ask to take the role on a 4 week trial as I think I'm allowed to do.
Apparently the company has know about the redundancy for a good (before new year) why however have they only just decided to tell me this?. My manager also decided to tell two of the people that are my direct reports in a meeting an 3 hours my meeting that I was being made redundant which I think is outrageous.
During the time that the company knew about the pending redundancy there was a position open that my I would have been perfect for (it was a role junior to mine and was within my current team) but I would have been the best fit by a mile), obviously if the company knew about the pending redundancy then I would have thought that they would have had to consider me for this role but they didnt. Obviously I wasn't aware of the pending situation at that point.
I am also due for surgery to remove my gall bladder in a few days and will be off work for a period of 2-4 weeks from then onwards. This is my first bought of sickness since being in their employ.
I have now got a meeting on Monday to discuss this further, my questions are: -
Does I have a time frame where I gets to seek legal advice before making any decisions?
If I choose a different role can I keep my salary as the company is not having financial difficulties of any kind?
During the 4 week trial would I keep my current wage?
Given the information about would you fancy my chances in a tribunal if it came to it?
Thank you in advance for your advice

Just to add I've had no paperwork from them telling me what they are doing, who it is affecting and why it's happening.

No i haven't as yet. Should I be chasing them?
Surely it cannot be right that they informed two of my direct reports about my redundancy before I was informed? They will not be taking any of my duties.
I have been having issues with my manager since he started with the company about 4 months ago and I feel this is really unjust. I appreciate emotions are running high though.

Just an update. I've gone in to work today and the MD asked for a meeting. He's offered me a compromise agreement. I'm happy with what he has offered and he was very apologetic with how I have been treated.
I'm now waiting on the official documentation being emailed over so that I can consult a solicitor (which work is paying for). I have been put on garden leave from today.
Can anyone tell me when the settlement is usually paid? Is it month end with standard salary or is it now?

You need to ask. Policies vary from one employer to another and it may be paid anything up to 4 to 6 weeks after your termination date. It's often quicker but I wouldn't expect payment immediately often.
