Default Restructuring and Apply for Own Role

    Hi

as a result of a restructuring exercise I have been advised that my current role will have some additional responsibilities and as a result of this I will need to reapply for the role. However the following things have or have not happened:

    - other roles in the team have had changes to their responsibilities but do not have to reapply (in the main the other roles have had the responsibilities reduced).
    - an individual has been promoted to the team with new responsibilities for their previous role. That role has not been advertised etc.
    - although I have had a meeting with the manager who explained the new structure etc, I have not been put at risk of redundancy or to be more precise I have not been formally put at risk.
    - the new role that I am being told to reapply for will probably be advertised very shortly but I am expected to continue to perform my current role.

This leads me to two questions:

    1. Is the above correct / legal etc?
    2. How formal does the 'at risk of redundancy' need to be? For example, is my manager telling me what is happening all that needs to happen?

Thanks in advance for any response.

The change may be minimal - and if it is less responsibility then there is certainly no reason for then to have to re-apply. .
    - an individual has been promoted to the team with new responsibilities for their previous role. That role has not been advertised etc. There is no reason why it should have been. Employers do not have to advertise roles.
    - although I have had a meeting with the manager who explained the new structure etc, I have not been put at risk of redundancy or to be more precise I have not been formally put at riskThere is no reason why you should have been. the employer may consdier that if you are unsuccessful they have sufficient capacity to offer you suitable alternative employment. Or they may not put you at risk until you are unsuccessful. .
    - the new role that I am being told to reapply for will probably be advertised very shortly but I am expected to continue to perform my current role. Yes. And since that is the role to which you are contracted until otherwise notified, that seems fine.

This leads me to two questions:

    1. Is the above correct / legal etc? It appears to be

You are jumping the gun in assuming that restructure and redundancy are the same thing. There is no reason why an employer cannot restructure without a single redundancy occuring
