Default Redundant Without Receiving Contractual Benefits

    Hi Everyone,

This week I have been made redundant from my company which has decided to shut its doors due to an overseas investment proving more profitable for them to concentrate on.

My problem is this: I have only been with the company for 22 months, therefore do not qualify for the two year minimum redundancy pay option. I am fine with this. However, when I accepted the job, it was at a slightly lower salary than I hoped for. I brought this up at the time, and said that I would accept the lower salary as long as they promised to supply me with ongoing, external training in order to help with my career progression. This was agreed in writing at the time of the acceptance of the role.

During my time at the company, I have received no training or career development at all. Unfortunately, a budget wasnt discussed at the time, but I have researched the average annual cost of training for employees and presented this to the business owners and have asked for compensation accordingly. It equates to approximately £6,000. (UK average training spend based on 2009 figures per year is £,3,050).

Is this realistic to ask for? If they refuse it, will it be worth my time to progress it through the legal channels?

Thank you all for reading this and offering your help.

    AJ.

Seriously? They will laugh their socks off and telling you where to shove it! don't make a fool of yourself. And there are no legal channels for this. They promised to pay you your wage and gave you an empty promise about training.
