I have been working for my employer for 14 months, as a hgv driver.
On friday 27th jan i got back to the yard and was called into the office.
I was told there and then that i was being laid off, i was also told that another 2 drivers would be laid off.
At this point i said i was leaving the meeting to contact my union to which i did and i have now appealed.
I am a bit confused so i am hoping someone on here can answer me a few questions.
Was i suppose to be consulted prior to being told on Friday, my boss his now saying that he was going to consult but i left the meeting!
Any more info would be helpful
Thank You
Mark

Please define "laid off "-made redundant or just told there is no work at the moment. And what has the union told you?

Well that seems to be all you can do right now. You have asked for reasons for your selection?

Well, walking out did leave him that opening. But you cannot put back the clock. Have you asked for the way the selection was made - you don't have much chance of an appeal if you don't have that information.

Ok, so you have the reason - why did you get selected? I'm afraid you can't hang him for getting a date wrong....

He has'nt told me why i was selected he as just wrote down the criteria.
But maybe the real reasons are because.
1. I refused to take more than one passenger in my truck.
2. I refused to go with a driver that smoked in is cab.
3. I refused to take my tacho out on a friday when i got back to yard, whilst we loaded up.
4. I refused to work on a saturday without putting a tacho in, and not declaring it on my time sheet.
oh and i instisted on having 45 hours weekly rest although i never did.
