Hi there
I have recently been notified that I am at risk of redundancy and have a little q which I'm hoping someone can help me with:
Having only recently returned from maternity leave I now understand (as a result of everyone talking about notice periods etc) that I am the only employee with 1 months notice period - everyone else is on 3 months. This is mainly the result of staff turnover and new contracts being updated but I also know that there is one individual who was promoted internally within the dept and her notice period was increased too. In theory my role has changed too as I've gone from ft to pt. Clearly a shorter notice period would put me at a disadvantage financially but is there anything I can do about this?
cheers

Notice period

Dear Stayawake
If during your maternity leave contracts were updated and yours was not, and these staff were there at the same time you were employed, then I would ask your employer why you were not consulted in this process as you believe that you have been treated unequally and has put you at a disadvantage. However, just make sure of your facts first. It might be a good idea to speak to your manager about your query first.
Either that when you are in consultation regarding the potential redundancy, one of the things you could raise is the matter of notice period.
Good luck and hope this has helped.
