    Question Redeployment question

    Hi

I have been informed my post is redundant and have had the financial package outlined to me. My notice period ends in February, the organisation's policy is entry on to the redeployment register for 3 months. My question is once I've served my notice period and then entered on to the redeployment register, can I accept a job offer from outside the organisation from an alternative employer and still receive my redundancy package or would this be forfeited as I didn't complete the time on the redeployment register?

    Many thanks

No. You can only guarantee your redundancy payment if you receive and accept an offer during your statutory notice period. You don't serve your notice and then enter redeployment - it doesn't work like that. You take your termination date and then work backwards to calculate your statutory notice.

There's another possible catch. You don't mention it but you are doing the "speak" - are you public sector? Because there are rules about accepting a job with another public sector agency/ employer within a certain period of redundancy which can mean that you lose/repay redundancy money - and these apply even after you leave.

Hi thanks for replying, you're correct in your assumption of this being a LA. I had my redundancy confirmation meeting with financial details last week and was told my official leaving date would be 2/2/12. The redeployment policy is for a 3 month period but I have immediately began looking for alternative employment as I am a senior manager and it's unlikely that a suitable role will become available within my LA given the pay grade I am currently on. I am unclear as to my options should I be offered a job post 2/2/12?

Since LA's broke from national agreements on this matter, I cannot tell you what your LA do, because obviously I don't know who they are! You need to confirm the arrangments with your union and/or HR, but I am quite certain that there will be a period of time after you end your employment during which obtaining a job with another public sector employer will eman that your employmnet is continuopus but you will owe bacj the rdeundancy payment. But please do check. And if in any doubt - don't spend the rdeundancy until you are sure the period has passsed. For you, the continuous employment rights are worth more than any redundancy payment now! And if you are fortunate enough to obtain employment quickly the you will thnak me for that advice - maintianing your continuous service is not as "gold-plated" as the Sun and David Cameron seem to think - but it is damned useful! Even a short break screws your pension something rotten!
