Default redundancy through reorganisation of department

I was told by my employer that they are proposing to reorganise the department and that my role is at rosk of redundancy. They have 4 teams and are proposing reorganising them into 3. There are currently 4 team leaders, one of which is already leaving to take up a post in another part of the company. So they will be left with 3 team leaders anyway. Another team leader is on sick leave and will go on incapacity anyway. So the current situation is they have told us that we will have to reapply for our jobs. The roles will still be team leaders and require the same tasks but my boss said they will be more "meaty"

This does not make sense to me as the current situation is that they have 2 team leaders including myself, so why do we have to reapply for the jobs when there are 2 team leaders currently working and 3 proposed jobs?

We went througha reorganisation this time last year and had to manage different teams within the department and take on more responsibility- so im trying to understand how this case can be any different?

    Please can you help?

    Dear Stoneybees

I do not think you should exclude the Team Leader on sick leave as they are still employees and should be put in the pool for selection.

However, as you say with the one on sick leave that still leaves 3 Team Leaders for 3 jobs. However, if they are changing the jobs then you need to find out what they are changing to and why.

They have to consult with you and give you more information, so I would ensure this happens so that you can raise any queries during the consultation.

Once this starts and you have queries, by all means come back to us with more definite information so that we can hopefully advise you further.

    Best wishes

    Carol
