offered alternative employment my company has made approx 12 people redundant since November. So far my department has escaped. There are 4 of us in the department. Today we were told that a member of staff from another department had resigned and one of us should volunteer to fill that position or 1 of us 4 would have to be made redundant. I was asked to stay behind at the end of the meeting and told that of the 4 I would be the preferred choice. I was given loads of compliments about being the most suitable person to fill the vacancy, a valued member of staf, etc etc. The problem is I don't want the job, I want to stay as I am. None of the others want to volunteer but I now feel as if I say no then I may be forcing one of my colleagues or myself, to be made redundant. Where do I stand as I know that sometimes redundancy pay is not given where alternative employment has been refused. But my actual role hasn't been made redundant yet?
