I have this week been placed at risk.
My letter refers spefically to me being a Project specific Business Development Manager. My offer letter refers to me as a Business Development Manager. I am in a large defence company and seek advice. I was recruited for my background in a specific capability. Having worked hard for 2 years to position ourselves the project with the MOD will not be contracted until 2014 at the earliest. They have selected 3 consortium to go forward of which we are not one, but do have capability the other consortiums and customer would like. They refer in the letter to the company not being selected for the dialogue phase.
I do not have anything in writing to the effect that my contract was reliant on this selection failure. The company will still continue trying to still into the other teams or engage.
No vacancies exist in the company for another BD although they are short of BD roles and will possibly recruit shortly.
Only one other BD guy is emplyed in my area and he is not at risk.
Does anyone now if they can make a person redundant for the above reassons?

Can the employer show that there is there a diminishing need for BDMs at the moment or not? If so, there is a genuine redundancy situation.
If there is, why hasn't the other BDM in your area been included in the selection pool?
