Hi,
I and around 240 of my colleagues were made redundant on 07 January of this year after the business we were working for appointed administrators and closed. The business was called Gibsons Foods based in Ellesmere Port. We new the company was in difficulty but nobody in management was talking about closure they were just saying they did not know what would happen to the business. On Tuesday night 06 January while in work the HR manager phoned the shift managers and told them to inform the workforce they had to come in for 12pm the next day where we would have a meeting with administrators.
At the meeting one of the company directors told us that earlier that morning Wilson Field of Sheffield had been appointed administrators and as a result the business would be closing and we were all redundant effective immediately. We were given RP1 forms filled them out as best we could and then left.
There was no consultation with the workforce regarding redundancies, the company is said to be insolvent. Is it possible for us to still claim for a Protective Award form a tribunal? When I asked the administrators about this due to a lack of consultation they said 'no'.
I hope you can offer some advice on this situation. If you nedd more information please let me know.
