I found out the end of last year that the company I work for was getting outsourced overseas and come Sept 09 I'll be out of work. We were offered a really good retention deal to stay untill the end, which i have decided to stay for. I have now found out I am pregnant, baby due Oct - where do i stand? Can the company go back on their retention deal?
Thanks

Hi Scottlass. An expert should be along shortly to offer advice. In the meantime if you think of any other details that might be relevant then let us know, it may help somebody provide you with a more satisfactory answer. Thanks

Thank you for your question.
If your employer withdrew your retention package on the grounds that you are pregnant they will be directly discriminating against you as outlined in The Sex Discrimination Act 1975.
It is direct discrimination to treat a woman less favourably by reason of her pregnancy or by reason of her taking maternity leave. This includes a pregnancy related illness.
If your employer withdraws your package for this reason, you may wish to consider lodging a complaint of sex discrimination with the employment tribunal.
I hope this helps.Clara Buckingham
