    Default Job being made redundant, but offer same role with another department with less pay

    Could someone please clarify whether an employer can make my existing role redundant, when the same role, with minor wording changes to the job spec is being offered to me within a different department, but with a lower salary.

    My understanding this would only be possible if my responsibilities\functional role were being taken on by existing employees. It seems to me my employer is using this as a ploy to reduce my salary, if I am correct, how could I accept the Job offer, but still leave me an option to fight the unfair salary reduction, and redundancy?

    Appreciate any clarification, and guidance which could be given, especially if it is favorable to my case.

    If the job is no longer required in your department then it is redundant. What is happening to the responsibilities performed by your existing role?

    The question seems to be whether you have to accept the alternative you've been offered; ie same job in a different department.

    Thankyou for responding. Slight error on my part, The new role is in the same department just under a diiferent section and line manager. The role is slmost the same as my old one (Job spec 95% the same as my old one when compared), but with added responsibilities/

    I can now confirm all my existing worload and responsabilities are being carried forward into my "new Job offer". No one is taking over any of my cuurent workload or responsabilities.

    So it's not a redundancy situation at all then, just an attempt to reduce pay while moving the job to a new manager. I would write saying you do not consider this to be any form of redundancy as your post is still there, albeit under a different manager. Say you understand any changes to your terms and conditions (including salary) require your consent, and you are hereby withholding your consent to their proposal to reduce your salary when transferring your job to the new line manager.

    I have a simular problem, I was employed for a specific role but from day 1 I haven't been allowed to carry this out, instead I have had to carry out a lesser role. I was told today, after almost 2 years, that my position is 'at risk' of redundancy, however, if I do take the redundancy package (something which is not an option I can afford to do) the company will have to employ sombody else to do the same role but with a different job title and for less pay. I don't think this is legal somehow!
