My job is being recommended for redundancy. I work for a local authority as a Engineering Cad Technician. Basically this involves putting sketches from Mechanical and Electrical drawings onto computer (using CAD software). In addition to this I put Fire Risk sketches onto computer (using CAD software). I have done this for over a decade.

My employer also has 2 Trainee Architectural CAD Technicians (who are paid via an employment agency rather than directly employed).

My work for the engineers has 'dried up' as each engineer does his own drawings.
My work for the Fire Risk Team has 'suddenly stopped' and the general consensus is that my employer is witholding work and constructing my dismissal.

I am arguing that instead of making me redundant they should offer me the work being done by the 2 trainees - who are at present attending day release at college.

Is my employer treating me unfairly and constructing my dismissal. I am waiting get an opinion from a lawyer via my union but I am interested if anyone has any thoughts.

Thank you in advance.
