I have always been busy in and enjoyed my position as an IT Project Manager. In autumn, my manager moved and one of my team colleagues took over. Since then there has hardly been any work. There can be a quiet week once in a while but usually it picks up afterwards again. I've asked for several meetings and was told there is not the type of work I want to do, only smaller projects. But this wasn't correct. I've even told my manager he should speak to HR and that it seems my position was becoming redundant but he didn't action. At some stage I started speaking to HR and only after behind chased by HR, my manager met with them.

Within the team, my work has been redistributed to the engineers, however, they are so busy now that most stay 1 - 3 hours late every day. My manager works very long hours at time responding to emails throughout the evenings until the early morning hours and he works most weekends. I think this is where my work has gone.

It does not appear fair for me to sit there doing nothing while everyone else. The engineers now have to do all project management work. There was no official or unofficial announcement that PM work would be redistributed. I've found that another post for an engineer with PM experience is published at the moment. I have spoken to one of the engineers who advised me that there is far too much work to do including the PM work in his day-to-day activities.
We are now at a stage where I've started to look for work internally and externally. Some feedback I am getting is that positions have already been filled. With this delay by my manager and his lack of action, I may have missed out on a number of opportunities.

Furthermore, I've found that a position for Problem/Incident manager became open in autumn but I was never offered it despite it being suitable based on my experience.
Also, the actual meeting starting the consultation period is still to take place. Due to my manager's manager being on annual leave, this has not happened yet. (I see this as a positive point for me though as it gives me a little more time). At some stage this or next week I expect this to occur.
I've been advised that I can ask questions in the redundancy announcement meeting with HR and my manager, which I have decided to do. In addition to the above he ignores me input even when standing next to me and asks me again later, he repeats all that needs to be done to the smallest point, as well as other things. Last week when I returned after being off sick he came because he had a small task and said widely smiling 'you are not much better'. It may seem tiny but adding all together. He even mentioned I should help one other colleague (naming him
) since he lacks organisational skills in the future, but he doesn't give me any actual work.I have nothing to loose and want to find out the reasons for what has/is happening as I feel discriminated against. Even though it will not get me my job back.
I am only at the beginning of my 30s and would never have thought to become redundant so early, and then in this way. I've started to look for alternative positions but the pressure & stress is much higher having a time window of a month only to find something suitable. I won't let it stop me to move forward, but this way is just not right.
I would appreciate any advice and views.
