Hi
I was told late January that my position as marketing executive was made redundant. No procedure was followed and at the time I was told I was handed an at risk letter and was told I could leave two days later. I was given a months notice.
I had no consolation period and was not offered alternative employment even though therewere two internal vacancies.
I have recently found out that the vacancy in my department although working with membership and not marketing was given to anew external employee.
This is a job that was on the same level as my redunded position although not in marketing, and I could have carried out tasks well.
Is there a specific procedure they should have followed and should I look to take this any further?
Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.
Is this unfair dismissal?

Having a job "at the same level" does not mean "with the same skills". There are not enough details here. What exactly happened? How many people made redundant? How long had you worked there? What other jobs could you have done - and why?

Ok.
All employees knew we were going to have some redundancies. On 26 jan I was taken into a meeting with my manager and told that my position is redundant. I was told then that I could leave on Friday and was handed a letter saying my job was at risk. During no point in that meeting were other vacancies mentioned.
I had no proper meeting with hr. Just a brief chat about monies due to me. The at risk letter was the only documentation I Have received. I have been employed there from October 2007 till Feb 2011.
I believe around 8 were made redundant.
At the same time I was made redundant my colleague left to work for another company. Now although this was not a marketing job, I often supported this role in many ways and I had all the skills to carry out this position and it was not offered. There was no specialist skills required.
Now I have found out that an external person has taken this role and am unsure as to where I stand?
If you need any further information please let me know.

The process was somewhat rushed and the consultation appears to have been inadequate, as does the failure to consider whether any suitable alternative roles could be found. You should also have been given a right to appeal and a right to be represented at the meeting(s). I think there may be a case to claim unfair dismissal. Can you get legal advice - do you have any cover on your insurance?
