Default Made redundant, then replaced by a subordinate.

Hi, three weeks ago I was made redundant from my position as deputy manager after 7 months in the job. I have just been told that a subordinate has been managing (with a pay increase whilst managing) one or two days a week. If a deputy manager is not required, can they do this legally?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Yes. With less than a years service the term "redundancy" is a sham - they can dismiss you for any reason other than discrimination or whistleblowing and you have no claim for unfair dismissal. But even if this hadn't been the case, there is no indication that this would be unfair in law - the work can be redistributed to other staff as you describe as they have not replaced the post.

Thanks for that, bit of a shame for me, but there ya go ;-)
I think my ex-manager may be on here asking a supplemental soon though - they are trying to do it to him too!
As soon as I get a job (soon I hope) I'll make a donation, thank you again for your prompt reply.

You are welcome! As will be your ex-manager. Sorry it couldn't be more positive.
