Good evening
I have been working in education since Oct 1991. I have been offered an opp to apply for voluntary redundancy with my current employer but we are disputing my continuous service . I worked as a Lecturer for an FE College from Oct 1991 to Sept 1996, then in a school , as a teacher,in a different LA from sept 96 to sept 2002, then another different LA as an Adviser from sept 2002 to jan 2009, then another LA as an adviser from Jan 2009 to present.
My current LA employer says I only have 14 years service as they will not accept the 5 years I worked in the FE College. The college is Wirral Met Collge and I am now also once again employed by Wirral LA.
I recall that whilst I was with the College my payslips had the Wirral LA Logo on them and having checked the web I believe my employment with the College does count towards my service. I have to make a decision by Oct 27th and would very much appreciate some prompt advice on this as the cost differential in the offer is quite substantial. HELP someone please?
many thanks

I'm afraid that we can't help. Because we do not know who your employer was! What is on the payslip does not prove that the LA employed you - many organisations contract out payroll, and it is not uncommon, for example, for educational establishments to have payroll done for them by a LA. The same is often done for pensions. You would have to show that the LA was your employer during this period - not the provider of a payroll service. Sorry, but you will need to find that proof if they do not accept that your employment was continuous. If you were in a pension scheme, they may have details of your employer.
