Default Redundancy Package - can I disclose the information

    Hi All,

I have recently been put at jeopardy alongside my whole department for redundancy. As part of this everyone affected received a calculation of the redundancy package that may be paid out should the roles be affected and the individual/group consultations have started. The consultation is targeted to take 90 days.

My questions is this: I am now being approached by another company that is willing to consider covering part of this redundancy package should I want to leave sooner. However, they want me to email them the details of the redundancy package: when the consultation period is over, the size of package, etc. They say this is so that they can discuss between themselves before making an offer in money.

Would there be any reason why I should not let them know the details of the package? Are there legal implications (they may pursue other people hired here)? I was already interviewing for this company prior to my role being made at risk so they did not contact me as part of outplacement or knowing that I was at risk.

    Best Regards
    jonolo

Hmm - interesting. But yes, it could very possibly be a serious breach of trust and confidence to release details (even your own individual ones) of a company redundancy package, in effect, to what would appear to be a competitor. Even your own details could be used to figure out what the actual overall package is. I am not sure what nefarious purposes this knowledge could be put to, since it would appear that anything they might be looking at would potentially save money for your employer - but then that doesn't mean it can't be, or that your employer wouldn't take it amiss.

To be honest, to ansure that you are completly in the clear, and given the circumstances, I might be inclined to cover my back and obtain permission from the employer to disclose even my own details. It can hardly be a big secret that anyone at risk would be looking for other opportunities, so it isn't as though you are telling them anything they wouldn't be able to guess at - and if it will potentially save them money then they shouldn't really have any major problems, but if they do at least you know.
