A question to carol guilford re: redundancy notice period iwth 1 year service

Redundancy after 1 year's service Dear Alan
Regretfully this is hard to answer as the notice period depends upon your contract of employment.
It also depends upon whether you are required to work your notice after the consultation period has ended or whether you are redundant after this period.
Statutory notice periods are 1 week for each completed year of service unless the contract of employment states otherwise.
I would therefore advise you to review your contract of employment.
However, your company should be advising you of the terms of redundancy regardless of whether you qualify for Statutory Redundancy Pay or not.
Have they consulted with you at all? If not they would be in breach of the Statutory Dismissal Procedure that applies to redundancies regardless of length of service. However, some companies have their own redundancy policies and you should ask if there is one or at least what the process is.
Again, I am sorry that I cannot be specific. Should you wish to know more about your rights I would advise you to visit the BERR website:

Hope this helps.
Best wishes
carol
