I have just been made redundant after 3 years with the company (15 months in the current role). Two of the people making the decision were not based at my office and the third one had only been with the company for a month. Therefore none of them were aware of my capabilities to do the job. I was advised that the decision to make me redundant was based on previous appraisals (I had not had one since moving to this role), online training (which we had been told not to do as they were updating the system), discussions with my line manager (who was on holiday and she confirmed she was not spoken to) and file auditing. Is this the correct procedure?
Also my position was not redundant as all the workload was merely transferred to another office, I was not given the option to transfer to the other office. Is this the correct procedure?
None of the jobs on offer were for my position and I was therefore advised that I had been put into a pool for a different position of which I had no experience for. Therefore, it was apparent that I would be made redundant before the consultation period was even completed. I asked to be considered for the role I was doing prior to me moving to this position. I was told at my final meeting that I had not been considered for this role, as they did not have to consider me if there was already someone suitable for the role currently doing the job. Is this correct?
