I have recently told been told that I have been made redundant as a reslt of a company merger.
I have a dual role in the old company reporting into two managers and managing two separate groups of staff. One of the two departments is being merged immediately with its counterpart in the aquired company and my role no longer exists - so yes I can see that I am redundant there. However the other pair of departments are not being merged until January 2011 - so presumably one half of my role is not redundant until then.
Can they make me redundant - or should I try and get a settlement for the second role which still exists?
Thanks for the advice.

Dual Role - Made Redundant

They should ideally offer for you to continue doing the rest of your role if that's a possibility, with redundancy coming next January, but they certainly could make you redundant now as your role as it was doesn't exist.
What is happening to the other half of your role if you go? Would you want to carry on doing it (presumably on a half-time basis?) It may not have even occurred to them that you'd want to as most people who work full time wouldn't consider such a drop in hours and pay as viable.
