Question Risk of redundancy notice and roles

    hi

I have just been served, out of the blue, a risk of redundancy notice whilst attending a normal management meeting with my employer … apart from being a little stunned I have a couple of questions

    1) I am the manager of one of two pubs in the company with another full time salaried manger managing the other pub .. if my role as manager within the company is at risk does that mean that the other manager should be served a risk of redundancy letter?

    2) I am confused as to who I am allowed to bring to the meeting I have been invited to by my employer … do I have to chose an employee from the company or can I bring an impartial representative with me ? I am not a member of a union.

    In answer to your questions:

    1. It depends. If your pub is the only one likely to close, then your colleague's job isn't at risk. If it's not clear which pub will close, and it could be either, then yes you should both be 'at risk' until a decision is made. What's the actual reason for the potential redundancy, is it a closure of the pub?

    2. You would normally be allowed to bring a colleague or a TU rep, so if you're not in a union it would need to be a colleague. The person you bring isn't expected to be impartial, by the way, you are bringing someone to support and represent you. Have they not told you who you can bring?
