Default Continuous shift work - should redundancy pay include shift allowance?

My employers are making redundancies amongst whom are 4 shift workers. Their redundancy pay calculations take no accont of the 20% shift allowance and are based on basic pay, despite their having worked continuous shift work for many years. I believe that their redundancy pay should be based on their shift pay. Am I correct?

    Thank you for your question.

Redundancy pay should be calculating using your 'normal' pay weekly pay. Any regular shift allowance or regular bonus payment should be included in the weekly pay used to calculate redundancy pay.

Going by the information that you have supplied, your colleagues should have the shift allowance included in the rate of pay.
