Hello
A friend is finding it bit hard to know what to do but he is asking about Voluntary redundancy, does redundancy have to be in place before he does any thing or can he still seek it, he ha sbeen with the company nearly four years would he get anything?
Thanks

There's no reason anyone can't ask for voluntary redundancy, although if there's no redundancy situation already, it might not give a great impression to his employers if he just asks out of the blue. They might feel if he doesn't want to be there he should just resign...
If there is a redundancy situation and your friend wants to volunteer to be selected for redundancy again he can of course ask. They in turn can refuse.
If there is a redundancy situation and he is asking to be one of those selected he'd probably get whatever redundancy package they are offering generally. Statutory redundancy pay is a week per complete year of service (varies slightly for older and young workers), to a maximum of £380 for a week's pay. Plus notice which he may or may not be asked to work.
