    Default Decent Package?

    Hi there.

I'm likely to be made redundant at the end of July (currently doing the consultation thing) on the basis that all the permanent posts at my level are to be replaced by contractors (at £10k less).

As it's all a bit of a stitch up and my boss is pretty dreadful anyway - I'm happy to go.

I've been in post 4.5 years and will get £10k (12 weeks salary) as a package (as per my contract).

I'd like to ask for my redundancy payment and PILON from end of March to end of July Is this likely to be agreed to/could I do better?

    Any help appreciated thanks.

NB - Apologies for the multiple postings - I can't seem to find an "edit post" button and using the back button seems to have generated multiple versions ...

So basically you don't want to work your notice, is that what you mean, and would like pay in lieu instead? You can ask, certainly. It may be that your employer is happy for people not to be sticking around for that long anyway, although if that's the case I would expect them to be doing that anyway, rather than you having to ask.

In terms of could you do better, well probably not, if you have a contractual redundancy package you'll probably only get that.

Thanks for the prompt reply - I guess I'll make that suggestion then and if they refuse go to a solicitor.

It could get complicated as they are already employing contractors and clearly shoving the work their way so that the permanent staff have none.

If you feel the redundancy isn't necessary or genuine, you could of course appeal it on that basis. But as you are happy to be made redundant anyway, you'd have to hope they don't change their minds on your appeal and retract your redundancy, in which case if you don't want to stay you'd have to resign and get nothing.

Depending on the details and whether they think you might have a case and also might be willing to actually pursue it, if you appeal they may up the offer a bit or stick with the same offer if they feel there's minimal risk.
