Notice period I’m currently two weeks into a 30 consultation period. The job I’m currently doing changing slightly and moving 20 miles away. The extra mileage makes the job a non starter for me. As I’ve only been working for the company for 6 months so I’m not entitled to any redundancy. At the end of my consultation period if I handed my notice would I be made to work it or paid in lieu barring in mind that the move to due location won’t be till May time.

You wouldn't be handing in your notice, they'd be giving you notice. Assuming they are offering you this alternative position, and the commute is so different that you couldn't consider it suitable, then they should be making it clear that redundancy is the alternative as well as outlining any payments you might get (notice only in your case). If you decline the other position they should then give you a termination date and will probably let you know at that point whether they want you to work your notice (probably, if move not happening until May), or want to terminate immediately and pay in lieu. It's their decision, but I would expect them to want you to work your notice.
