Hi, the company I work for are re-structuring and centralising the accounts work. I have lost my two purchase ledger girls, but have been told that my role is not effected by the changes. Unfortunatley my job title didn't show that I supervised these girls and purchase ledger was only part of my role.
My question is where do I stand? I am losing about two weeks work a month without purchase ledger and I have been told that I will be given work to "fill in the gaps". But what if this is not what I want to be doing? Have I not got a right to be considered for redundancy if the work being offered is not suitable to my role and qualifications? Also where do I stand with the team the work has been handed over to, if they ask me to deal with queries or elements of the role that has gone to them.
To be honest I no longer want to be here, the office is empty, but I've been here 12 years and do not want leave if there is a chance of redundancy.
I need advise on where I stand. Should I put in a request for voluntary redundancy on the grounds that my role in my opinion has changed.
Very confused and disillusioned, please help.
Thanks
Sue

Why Not Me?

If work you are offered isn't suitable for you in terms of your skills and experience, then yes you could say your role is redundant. The trouble is it sounds as though only part of your role would be redundant, as you are still doing at least some of your original work.
I would suggest you ask for clarification about the extra work you will be given in order that you can assess whether the work is suitable for you, and also ask for clarification about any queries coming from other teams. If it's queries about your usual line of work, then it's work coming to you which is suitable, so I wouldn't say dealing with queries from elsewhere isn't suitable necessarily.
You could always ask for voluntary redundancy if you think they might take that up?
