Hello, I'm new to this forum so I apologise if someone has already asked this question. My employer is looking to make about 40 posts redundant and recreating about 25 new ones. They are looking for volunteers for redundancy but are also wanting people for the new posts. So there will be suitable jobs available for me to apply for instead of redundancy
My question is this: if there is an alternative job available that I could do but I don't want to take it as it will be on a lower pay scale (although the salary I am currently on will be protected for 3 years, although I am not sure at present if this is being guaranteed). If I refuse to take the alternative job based on this, am I still eligible for the redundancy or does it become an "ordinary" resignation?
Also, the new structure with all the new posts will be decided by December. The three month notice period will be Jan-Mar but we are expected to work out our notice period to allow for a "transition period" to take place, where the new people will slot into their new posts over the three months. Is this usual practice? I thought if redundancy was agreed on, that you left with payment in lieu of notice in your pocket?
In addition to this (last point, sorry!) I was informed that if I applied for and accepted one of these new posts, and then decided after a month that I didn't want it or it wasn't working out for me, I would not be eligible for the redundancy. I am sure I have read on Acas' site that I would be eligible for a trial period?
thank you I appreciate your taking the time to read this and hope that you can offer some insights.
