    premium_post Hi I need some advice please on redundancy

    Hi there

    Sorry this is probably too late, but I need some advice on the consultation interviews regarding redundancy, my first one is tomorrow, my role is no longer viable to the company so I am being laid off. I was taken on 18 months ago to do a new role within the department, and now I have done all the work I am no longer needed, I am wondering if they kind of knew that this was going to be a temporary role, should they not have advertised as a 18 month contract. I was promised to be trained in something else but obviously this is not an option.

    What questions should I ask in the meeting, I don't think there is a hope in hells chance of me getting another role in the company, but I as so confused as to how I need to react. I would like to do go in to teaching next year anyway so to be honest I have plans for my future, because I am very much capable of doing a better job than a Admin Assistant but it was my job and I was earning money so what can I do.

    Should I protest, get legal advice

    let me know

    Thanks

    Hi

    Sorry if this is too late for your meeting, but I expect you will have a second meeting, so perhaps this will help with that.

    I don't think there is any mileage in arguing that they should have advertised the post as temporary - the counter to that is that no company can predict precisely what will help so far ahead. The best you can do is to see if there are proposal you can make that will avoid your redundancy - perhaps offering to go part-time. But only if you want to stay there.

    You just need to ensure that your employer follows a reasonable procedure in making you redundant. This guide I prepared some time ago for employers shoudl help you with that.

    Regards

    Pete
