Hello,
I have been made redundant and have been asked to sign a contract to agree to the terms of my redundancy, although from what I can see I am not being offered anything particularly beneficial in the package. Is this normal and/or necessary. One of the conditions of the contract is that I would not then take legal action against the company regarding the redundancy. This is not something that I am currently considering, but would prefer to retain the option in case they were to do anything that warranted it - e.g. replace me.

It sounds like your employer is asking you to sign a compromise agreement.
Compromise agreements are legal documents that are sometimes used by companies in some cases of dismissal or redundancy. The overall purpose of a compromise agreement to prevent a possibility of further claims e.g. unfair dismissal claims, following the redundancy.
If you are not happy with the compromise agreement that has been offered to you, you do not need to sign it. If you are considering signing the agreement because they have offered a good financial incentive to do so, you can have it checked by a solicitor first.Clara Buckingham
