My colleagues and I have been told our department are at risk of redundancy.

Apparently this is due to cost cutting, and they are merging our department with another (that do the same job as us) in a different part of the country.

They have not put the people in the other office at risk and have not advertised any jobs there, is this the correct procedure? Or should they put everyone at risk and give everybody the opporunity to apply for the jobs.

Any help would be much appreciated.
