Hi,
I was made redundant at the end of June following a little over two years of service.
I don't think that my employer has done anything wrong procedure wise but I think the selection process is unfair, please can anyone advise.
I worked in a team of three: my line manager, a colleague (currently on maternity leave) & myself. We were informed that one of us was to be made redundant as part of a cost cutting exercise. Originally the company stated that a selection process would take place taking into account skill sets, experience etc. I have been informed verbally by my line managers manager that after this process had taken place it was my colleague (on maternity leave) who scored lowest, however at the same time they found out that my position was the only one of the three that was paid from the budget that was affected by the cost cuytting exercise - the other two were paid from a different budget. Therefore the selection process was aborted and I was given notice of redundancy. I may be being naive but as this left me in a pool of one, is the process fair?
To add to my disappointment I had worked for this employer previously and was also made redundant (in 2003). In 2006 they approached me to return and made me an offer that was simply too good to refuse. At the interview I raised concerns over the company's redundancy record and was verbally assured by the HR representative that having been made redundant once, they would make sure that my name was at the bottom of the list for any future cuts, a little over two years later they again make me redundant. I understand that this was only a verbal assurance and counts for nothing legally but surely any company let alone a large multinational has a moral obligation to consider such circumstances?
I have lodged an appeal and have the hearing this week so any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.
